windswept
the windswept coast of the Mornington Peninsular between Cape Schanck and Flinders, Victoria.
Twenty years had past since my last visit but it felt like it was just yesterday. Nothing had changed & my nightmares remained as strong as ever. It was a mistake to return, my hope that I could bury the past had been in vain. The howling wind, the driving rain & that ice cold chill but above all the cries of Mathew as he was swept out to sea.
It was like stepping backwards in time. My heart was heavy with despair & remorse. How could Mathew ever forgive me.
The tears streamed down my face; if only. If only I could have saved him. If only we had found his body. If only we could have laid him to rest, maybe my life could have moved on…….
